In November 2009 Terri Evans, a blueberry farmer from Warburton, Victoria, Australia, undertook a GrowGreen® trial on her blueberry crop. Terri’s farm has 70 thousand plants and Terri plans to start a new operation in 2010 at Cann River on 200 acres.
The size of the test area for the trial was 5000 x 6 inch pots & 100 larger plants with assistance from Rob Gasparroni from GrowGreen. Prior to the GrowGreen® technology trial Terri used kelp, compost, straw and chicken manure and utilized a spray application for watering.
Terri told GrowGreen prior to the trial commencement that her plants had a propensity to be iron deficient. The key objectives for the trial were to:
- Reduce input costs on the farm.
- Improve plant health overall.
- Reduce iron deficiency issues in the plants
- Deliver better quality blueberries.
Test Technology Employed
To perform the trial Terri selected GrowGreen®’s:
- Profert® @ 10ml per litre water sprayed
- Xtend® 1ml per litre.
Outcome Of Trial After Employing GrowGreen® Technology
Terri noted her plants look greener and healthier and had more vigour, and that iron deficiency issues were much reduced.
Terri stated that she was delighted with the results that Profert® and Xtend® were achieving on her blueberry crop. She was particularly impressed with the effect Profert® had on the plants that were showing an iron deficiency and has stated she will now begin to spray Profert® on all her plants in the future.
